Citizens go up in SmokeEarly Monday morning saw a rash of cases of 'instantaneous combustion' the likes of which have not been seen or reported ever in history of the U.S. No less than twenty-two people were reduced to ash without any apparent cause. No word yet on possible causes or links to the victims. |
Northern Lights Over ValleySunday saw an event not normally witnessed this far south in the hemisphere, as what appeared to be curtains of vari-colored light similar to the Aurora Borealis danced over the mountains of Western Virginia. The electromagnetic phenomenon lasted only an hour, but was quite a light show for those who caught it. |
Amidst Recession, Tri-city Area Jobs RiseDespite the current housing slump and fears of an oncoming recession, the cities of Staunton, Waynesboro and Harrisonburg have seen a rise in employment rates. This despite the loss of several businesses in the City of Harrisonburg. The Governor of the State lauded the efforts of the three cities, and held them as an example to the rest of the Commonwealth. |
Park to Annex LandIn a landmark decision , the Shenandoah National Forest was given an increase in land by the Department of Interior last Wednesday. The Park gained an additional 6,000 acres of land along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The new additional acreage falls under the strictest land management guidelines enacted to date. Proponents of the Act seek to extend the State's park lands even further by 2012. | |||
